GMAT - Verbal Sample Questions

Question #4

4a. Explain why the following sentence might be considered incorrect and rewrite the sentence so it is correct: This computer is a lemon, I want my money back now!

4b. This sentence is incorrect because it actually consists of two independent clauses that are spliced together with a comma. This is actually a very common error and there are several ways to fix this, but the three most common ways of fixing this error include changing the comma to a semicolon, substituting a coordinating conjunction in place of the comma or adding a coordinating conjunction after the comma such as and, or by breaking the two clauses into two separate sentences. This means that the correct sentence could be "This computer is a lemon; I want my money back now!" or "This computer is a lemon and I want my money back now!" or "This computer is a lemon! I want my money back now!"
